Assignment #4 Garden Center Ad

Your editor has asked you to design a new lawn and garden ad for THE TREND tabloid newspaper. She wants to attract the viewer with the overall design, but it requires a lot of information (minimum 14 different products).  Remember to work through the thumbnail stage first then build 3 different roughs to present before the final comp is completed. Don’t forget the medium (newsprint) and the issues of contrast, readability, and legibility. The ad will be featured in the color section of the tabloid
§  Size: 11w X 12.5 h
§  The ad must communicate what is available for that month including images and copy.
§  You can use existing copy from a current ad or ads but if you do you will need to bring the ad copy you used to critique
§  Take photos of plants and products that you may have around the house or go to an area park for photos (don’t try to take photos in the store without permission)
§  Your final images can be the photos or illustrations that you have created from those images. In either case you must submit the original photographs with the completed project. No Internet images of images scanned from a book. They must be original.
Steps:
o   Part one
§  Research garden products for the season and choose an existing garden center for which you will create the ad
§  Create at least 5 thumbnails of your ideas
§  From those thumbnails choose the best idea to finalize
§  Create a detailed rough for the layout of your choice
o   Part two
§  Show me your roughs (in class or by email)
§  Finalize and complete your final piece for critique.
